All these men had the chance to distance themselves – and their future  careers – from their co-ordinator and the investigation itself by dumping on Amaral; none of them took it, just as none of them had a single syllable of praise or apology for the parents. And the factual evidence they gave – such as the confirmation that the police search, unlike that of the parents, never ceased – contradicted the McCann claims.

I think you might be right although I don't think that the "troll" excuse would work after Brenda Leyland and the police pronouncement on the troll dossier.

So I predict an injury and, since the McCanns are so lacking in imagination, that would have to be an achilles tendon problem (a very rare condition called Achilles McCannitis. So rare that there has only been one previously documented case worldwide. Unlike most achilles injuries which requires bracing or surgery then physiotherapy, Achilles McCannitis is an acute injury that spontaneously heals itself when it is no longer useful to the patient)
