There are many examples of retired police officers offering powerful testimony to me and my staff about past investigations of child abuse. They were shut down once it was apparent that high-profile politicians and other establishment figures were involved. They include Operation Circus, which focused on what was known as the Piccadilly Circus “meat rack”, where men would pick up adolescent boys for sex. Cyril Smith was among the powerful politicians spotted here taking boys back to a flat in north London. Questions must be asked about why those investigations did not continue

Not surprised,I lived in the area back then (N Devon) one or two tales to be heard then.

This needs correcting though,there was no murder.

He was accused of murdering Norman Scott for threatening to uncover their alleged relationship.

Well, it is The Express which isn't known for its accurate reporting!

I don't remember Jeremy Thorpe admitting at his trial that he had "homosexual tendencies".

That's right that there were rumours but I never read of any confirmation.

I presume that, in view of his two marriages, he was bisexual.

Maybe, Caricature. That certainly wasn't uncommon in days gone by when it would have been the end of someone's career - whether in politics or in show business - for the "truth" to come out.

If Jeremy Thorpe had had an affair with a Norma Scott, nobody would have turned a hair. It's very sad, for all of us, we were deprived of a great politician.

I assume you mean Norman ?

The Homosexual affair was alleged to have happened in the early 60's when Scott would have been in his early twenties so no problem with his age as things stand now.However,homosexuality was illegal at that time so i think that is where the problem would be then.

Also many Homosexuals would marry (as cover) as has been suggested so certainly nothing odd about that.

Oh sorry,i see it now.

Point is though that Norman was not under age at the time,but it would have been considered illegal for reasons i gave.

I have never seen Thorpe's name come up in any of the other stuff.

Indeed,though David Steel seemed to think that smacking a few boys bottoms was nothing out of the ordinary for those times.

Mr Carman said not only had Thorpe been well aware of the allegations, he actively took steps to make sure they were stifled. He instructed the establishment’s chief fixer, lawyer Lord Goodman, to ensure the claims were never followed up by the national press to avoid being tarred with the same brush so close to standing trial.
