One for those with long memories
Who - apart from me - remembers the very sad case of Caroline Desramault, a baby whose French father was given custody of her (for no known good reason) in 1971?
The decision was later reversed but the father did a runner with the child. It took until 1973 for Linda, her mother, to get her back.
Here is a brief summary that I've found.
In the news 1960s/70s
For many weeks in that decade there was an heart-rending newspaper and other media story about a British woman whose vengeful and estranged French husband had, by hoodwinking the authorities, spirited abroad their infant son. He took delight in declaring that she would never see the boy again until at least he reached adulthood and there was nothing she, or the British authorities, could do about it. I have often wondered what subsequently happened.; With the passage of time I cannot remember the names of the couple involved, but I have an idea it was something like Desremoix and her name, maybe, Linda. Can anyone recall this case that
Caroline Desramault was the child's name. Her father, Rene Desramault repeatedly ignored court orders, including orders from the highest appeal court in France, to return her to her mother, Linda. In August 1972, a few days before Caroline was to be returned to her mother, Rene Desramault fled the French town of Lens, where he was living, and disappeared. He was eventually tracked down to Switzerland in September 1972, and the Swiss authorities placed Caroline in a children's home where she languished until a final and definitive ruling from the highest French court confirmed that she must be returned to her mother. Both parents took turns visiting Caroline in this children's home until March 1973, when the French ruling was recognised by the Swiss authorities. As luck would have it, Linda was actually at the children's home visiting Caroline when the court order came through. She immediately took her daughter to the airport and flew back to England before Rene could get to the children's home and try to stop her from leaving with Caroline. Linda subsequently divorced Rene - and some years later remarried - this time very happily. Rene, a bitter and vindictive man who used a helpless little girl as a pawn to punish her mother for daring to leave him, died some years later.

Murder of Jason Corbett
This case has become well-known in Ireland - what was thought at first to be self-defence is now looking different.

What was it Hogan Howe said of a murder enquiry.
Detective Inspector Julie Willats said: ‘The Met never close unsolved murders and regardless of the passage of time cases can and will be reviewed for any new opportunities to develop previously unknown lines of enquiry, and follow-up any fresh information which has become known to us.

Exactly Heisenburg, what keeps me sane here is regardless of what the Met try to put over, social media won't give up. Not to mention Dr Amaral and hopefully the P.J.

But on the flip side no closure will mean absolutely nothing coming out about what they were/are up to.

Re:This caught my eye.
This is my problem Heisenburg, I really don't think the full extent of the truth will be known, just my thoughts. My only hope is this case will come to some sort of conclusion in Portugal. To be honest I'm not holding my breath on this. But I really hope and think social media will keep the case going.

Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
Another thing this morning, are the press playing the McCanns. First paragraph in a story of Genette Tate,Madeleine is mentioned,
Then in the comment section we have this.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3402045/Child-killer-Robert-Black-died-prison-just-days-charged-1978-murder-schoolgirl-Genette-Tate.html
Back in the late Seventies, Genette Tate’s name dominated the headlines in the same way that Madeleine McCann’s did after she disappeared. Genette’s face stared out from newsstands and ‘missing’ posters across Britain, and her parents made emotional appeals on TV.
Then in the comment section we have this.
if the police spent as much money and time on genette case as they have done on the [perfect parents] Mccanns maybe they would have found some closure for the parents.

"George Osborne's brother admits having sex with vulnerable patient in his care
Psychiatrist Dr Adam Osborne will appear before the General Medical Council after engaging in an “inappropriate” emotional and sexual relationship
Dr Adam Osborne
Dr Adam Osborne, pictured arriving at a previous GMC hearing, is currently suspended by the council.

George Osborne’s brother is back before the General Medical Council after he admitted having sex with a vulnerable patient who had been under his care, a disciplinary panel has heard.
Dr Adam Osborne, who is currently suspended by the GMC, admitted that he had engaged in an “inappropriate” emotional and sexual relationship with the woman, despite being her private psychiatrist. The woman, referred to as Patient A, had been under Osborne’s care between February 2011 and late 2014 and had a history of mental ill health.
It is not the first time the younger brother of the chancellor has been in the spotlight for medical failings. In 2010 he was suspended from practising medicine for six months after writing fraudulent prescriptions for a girlfriend, a family member and an escort girl while a psychiatry trainee at Wythenshawe hospital in Manchester.
The GMC found that Osborne had behaved dishonestly after attempting to obtain antipsychotic medication for a cocaine-addicted woman he had been seeing while his partner was away. The tribunal said the misconduct, which related to incidents between June 2006 and May 2008, impaired his fitness to practise.
Osborne, who qualified as a doctor in 2004, did not attend the latest Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service hearing in Manchester. The tribunal will make a decision on the allegation that his fitness to practise is impaired by reason of misconduct in his absence when it is formally opened on Tuesday.
Osborne admits that he knew, or ought reasonably to have known, that the woman was a vulnerable patient because of her history of mental ill health. He further admits that between 14 February 2015 and 24 February 2015 he sent inappropriate emails to Patient A, which referred to requests that she withdraw her complaint to the GMC against him, made threats towards her and the consequences for her family if she did not withdraw her complaint and an accusation that she had seduced him.
The hearing is due to last 10 days."

Portugal - Mother “kills children out of vengeance”
Posted by portugalpress on February 18, 2016
Mother “kills children out of vengeance”
A three-year-old girl is still missing after her mother took her and her younger sister to their deaths in the freezing waters of the Tejo near Caxias (Oeiras) on the outskirts of Lisbon last Monday.
The tragic story of what led Sónia Lima to kill her own children has been documented by the nation’s media as a case where the authorities failed to act in time, but there are still doubts as to the validity of all the claims. Indeed, this morning, the nation’s most-read paper claims Lima “killed her daughters out of vengeance” and that she has been trying to manipulate Justice “imputing her (estranged) husband Nelson Ramos not only of aggressions but of the sexual abuse of her children”. These latter claims were not backed up by medical examinations, adds Correio da Manhã.
Both CM and Diário de Notícias attest to the fact that Lima took her children to hospital in November, alleging sexual abuse by the partner from whom she had only recently separated. Unable to find any evidence of sexual abuse and “in the face of the mother’s insistence of these facts”, the doctors advised Lima to go to the authorities - which she did.
While DN documents a number of instances where both police and APAV (the association for victim support) judged Lima and her daughters to be facing “elevated risk” from Ramos, CM suggests PJ investigators and Public Ministry prosecutors now believe that she “acted out of vengeance against her children’s father, who threatened to take the children from her”.
Ramos in the meantime has categorically denied all his former partner’s allegations. According to CM this morning, the Cascais judge hearing the facts far has “accepted” the theory that Lima “never intended to commit suicide, but just kill her children”, and for this reason she is now facing charges of qualified homicide which carry a maximum prison term of 25 years.
The argument that Lima was suffering from depression “which would mean reduced imputability” was “not considered”, says CM. Thus, the 37-year-old has been remanded in custody to Tires jail as searches continue for the body of her eldest daughter Samira.
As many as 300 police and search and rescue personnel are thought to be involved in the operation which has “already covered a vast area”, says ports commander Malaquias Domingues - adding that it is unlikely the child’s body has been caught in rocks near the beach where the children went in (click here). Meantime, the body of Samira’s younger sister, 19-month-old Viviane, is due to be released from the institute of legal medicine for burial.

The murder of Penny Bell
For some reason, this case came back to my mind today, nearly 25 years after the event. I don't recall hearing claims before of police incompetence.
Here is an interview from last year with her daughter.

A reasonable sentence for a change
A minimum of 24 years for this so-called mother.
This is a link to an earlier report before she was sentenced.

I can't bear to read the details of cases like this.
They keep happening time after time. How can other people - such as in the Ayeesha case, her father and godmother - not just march in and take the child away?
