Eddie's alerts were more general - the scent of cadaver and/or blood somewhere in the vicinity. Once he had detected that, Keela would be brought in to pinpoint the exact spot with her nose so that swabs could be taken

And, in this respect, the interesting thing is that Keela did NOT alert in the master bedroom ...

Between 3pm on August 4th 2007 and 6.30am on August 5th 2007, the following samples were recovered in the living room of apartment 5A at the OCEAN CLUB where a murder probably took place.
Never really noticed that bit before even though I've read it on more than one occasion.
Anyway, thought I'd stick it up.

I've never noticed that either Andrew, and I've got no idea what it's doing there either. Eddie and Keela were very good at their jobs, but neither of them could tell the difference between an accident and murder!

I don't think Eddie and Keela wrote up that report, Satsuma.
But get your point.

The latest lead came after the three cadaver dogs, two Springer spaniels and a German shepard mix trained on Civil War battlegrounds and sensitive to the scent of human decomposition, honed in on three sites on this hillside, where digging begins in earnest today.

Send in the Dogs UK
Sorry if this has been on before but there is a programme tonight - Thursday 8th Sept 2016 on the Channel PICK 152 on Sky.
"Documentary following the work of Britain;s police dogs in real operations,
sniffing out everything from drugs and weapons to counterfeit money" Ken Stott narrates.
As it is series 1 episode 4 it may be common knowledge here but I've only just noticed it. Annoyed I missed 1, 2 + 3.
Just thought I'd mention it though -- repeated an hour later on PICK + 1

Seen several episodes of the programme many moons ago. Not all though so might record the one this eve.
Always a joy to watch how incredibly reliable and brilliant these dogs are. Isn't that right, Gerry?

Re: Capabilities of the Dogs
This is the episode of Send In The Dogs which mentioned the McCann case.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmdkR1K-jU0
It's very weird though; there's a mention of the case at the end of part 1 and you assume that it will continue in part 2 but it doesn't.
Possibly it was whooshed on orders from on high but, if that was so, why not remove the first part too?

Re: Capabilities of the Dogs
I've never seen that one before. Just watched the first 7 mins or so about Eddie and Keela. Amazing dogs.
Yes I think a part of that video was most definitely pulled and wasn't allowed to be aired. They left the reference to the dogs working on the Madeleine case in as that was probably as much as they could get away with.

Re: Capabilities of the Dogs
I remember when I saw that for the first time - only a year or so ago though the programme was made in 2008 - and I couldn't wait to see what was said in the second part.
I was left thinking that I'd imagined the first bit!

Capabilities of "google"?
Reading across the road there and someone searched Madeleine McCann on Google maps. Up comes a place in Portugal labelled "Madeleine McCanns crib". Tried it myself but nothing came up, then another poster posted a link and there it was! What's that all about! must be just a joke, I know, I know.

Strange. I didn't get it when I put it in but I got it in your link and the one across the way? Probably a joke, but I didn't think any Tom, Dick or Harry could alter google maps?

Re: Capabilities of the Dogs
I just zoomed in on the link and changed it to satellite. I suppose if you wanted to dispose of something then that looks a good a place as any.
Not sure how you can add things on Google Maps etc but clearly someone has here though.

Been through Abrantes on the train. If anybody likes a bit of trainspotting then a trip to nearby Entroncamento is highly recommended. If not, then it's just a dull provincial hellhole to get stuck in when your connection goes wrong....

Re: Capabilities of the Dogs
Will stick this one here:
(unless there is another dog thread that is more suitable?)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4506920/Newborn-boy-buried-alive-bush-saved-dog.html
Newborn boy buried alive in the bush is saved by a dog after it 'smelt the baby' and dug into the ground to find him
The dog dug a hole in the soil to find the one-month-old baby in China
When the pet freed the baby, he was crying and his mouth was full of mud
It's thought the boy was buried because his family thought he had died

Later, cadaver dogs alerted detectives to that bathroom and the master bedroom. What the dogs alerted to was the presence of human decomposition.
“The first area they alerted to was in the master bedroom where the bundle of blankets was,” said Atkin. “The second area they alerted to was in the bathroom, specifically the bathtub.”
