THE parents of missing Madeleine McCann have been offered fresh hope in finding their little girl by Britain’s new Prime Minister Theresa May.
Kate and Gerry hope that the former Home Secretary – who has publicly backed their search – could save the fading police hunt.

Theresa May granted the Met Police an extra £95,000 to help keep the search for Maddie going until October
Scotland Yard’s £12 million pound investigation into Maddie’s disappearance is due to be axed within months.
But former Home Secretary May – who previously backed the couple – could now make a U-turn giving the family fresh hope.
A source close to the McCann’s said yesterday: “Kate and Gerry know the inquiry has to end one day but it is possible more time could be granted by Mrs May and her new Home Secretary Amber Rudd. Theresa has met the couple in the past and has been very supportive.”

Maddie disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, nearly 10 years ago.
In her role as Home Secretary May granted the Met Police an extra £95,000 to help keep the search for Maddie going until October despite failing to unearth any new clues.
Maddie’s gran Sue Healy said at the time: “This is good news and we are very grateful for that.”
But Scotland Yard boss Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe later admitted that unless they get a new line of inquiry they will have to give up the search.
He warned in Spring that the high profile search could end soon as police have just one final lead left to follow which he said “everybody agrees if worth pursuing.”
Hogan-Howe said: “There is a line of inquiry that remains to be concluded and it’s expected in the coming months that will happen.
“There’s been a lot of investigation time spent on this terrible case. Everybody wants to know if she is alive and if she is where is she, and sadly if she’s dead then we need to give some comfort to the family.”

The investigation has been drastically scaled back surviving with a team of three when there were, at one stage, thirty officers.
Mrs May previously told The Sun: “We all want to see this beautiful little girl returned to her parents. That’s why we have been doing everything we can behind the scenes.”
Before The Met Police inquiry was ordered in May 2011 by then PM David Cameron Kate had slammed the Government for “giving up on Madeleine”.
Launching an online petition in November 2010 to lobby the British and Portuguese authorities for a review of the case, she told her “disappointment”.
She said: “There is an abductor out there who is free to take another child. Other children are at risk and nothing is being done. Theresa May said she didn’t want to make any commitment. It was disappointing.
“I can’t get my head round the Government giving up on Madeleine. Why are missing children not important? They look for terrorists, why can’t they look for child abductors?”

The Government had a change of heart after Kate penned an emotional open letter, published in The Sun and delivered to Downing Street.
She called on the PM to press for a full independent and transparent review into Maddie’s case.
Mr Cameron wrote to the McCann’s, after ordering the Met Police to reopen every file on the missing youngster, saying he hoped “new action” would “help boost efforts in the search.”
He added: “Your ordeal is every parent’s worst nightmare and my heart goes out to both of you. I simply cannot imagine the pain you have experienced over the years.”
A Yard spokesperson said yesterday: “The Operation Grange team have considered the recent media speculation but we are not prepared to discuss our ongoing investigation to discover what happened to Madeleine McCann.”
The McCann source added: “It would be a boost to Kate and Gerry for the inquiry to continue but when it does end they will continue the search themselves.”

Mrs May previously told The Sun: “We all want to see this beautiful little girl returned to her parents. That’s why we have been doing everything we can behind the scenes.”
Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence I must say.
Although it is the sh!tty Sun spouting it.

For Christ sake how much more money do these two incompetent careless idiots expect this country to throw at this case they thought more of going on the lash than they did the safety of their kids......can't stand either of them.

Enough money has been spent on this, if they had looked after their daughter none of this would have happened, but they chose booze over her, left the kids on their own. They deserve everything and I hope that May dosnt throw away any more good money on them.

Why on earth would a new premier want to throw more tax payers money at a case where if the parents would tell the whole truth at what went on the case may well be solved.

Even if she was found she shouldn't be given back to her parents because they have already proved what amazing parents they are (You would think a GP would know better)

None of this would have happened if they looked after their own bloody kid. If a working class family behaved in this manner the press would crucify them. I feel sorry for the other kids neglected by the McCanns

Aww sorry Andrew, we are reading, thanks for all the links, it is the same old same old. I think Mrs May will do the right thing.........
She certainly won't be throwing more money at it I wouldn't think, and anyway didn't the McCann's say just a few weeks ago they totally understood the investigation would have to end soon???? Just the Sun filling column inches.

Me neither - don`t know what it is. She`s coming out all guns blazing at the mo obviously wanting to look tough and even copying David Cameron`s modus for ridiculing Jeremy Corbyn across the dispatch box. All well and good wanting to appear as if she`s tough, but the speech she gave on meeting Angela Merkel yesterday was just dripping with sugar and spice and seemed false to me - or as Kate McCann said `full of fluffy words` - that`s one thing I agree with KM on. Theresa May is full of fluffy words.

I think the word is cocky! I was disappointed with her at PM's questions when she turned on Jeramy Corbyn - you talk about kick a man when he's down, no matter what you think of him there was no need for it.

I reckon the police could be funded for another decade and still wouldn't come up with the truth of what happened.

Disagree with that, froggy.
I think they know (or at least a very good idea) what happened but proving it in a court of law is perhaps the stumbling block.

Yes, but the point is that if they can't prove anything, then they can't really say anything either, so there's no definitive result.

Or maybe I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time) and they can actually prove it. All of it.
But for whatever reason, just waiting for the 'nod'.

I don't think OG will end until there is an end to the case in Portugal with Mr Amaral. It seems like each time it's coming to an end, so is OG, then when there is an appeal or a new court date, OG will wind up bla bla bla months time. I'd love to know why they need to wait until the end of the libel case.

I agree Bloodhound.Operation Grange needs to remain in-tact so to speak until we have the
decision on the appeal. In my opinion it is all a 'political game'.However I do believe the McCann's appeal will be rejected, enabling Dr. Amaral to come forward with a fraction of the truth. I think that's the best we can hope for. The McCann's will then disappear/emigrate end off.Again just my thoughts.

I hope you are right Costello. I fear that because his book was published so fast it might be used against him. He possibly had the book with the publishers before the case was made public, still legally secret. I read somewhere that this appeal will only look at the legalities, I really hope he doesn't lose because of this. I can't see anything else in the whole case going against him except maybe this.
That is of course if he did do this, I can't remember the dates the case was made public and the book being published but I do remember it was close.
