Increasingly, the McCanns are left dangling all on their own with their preposterous claim about Madeleine.

Au contraire. There is no evidence that Madeleine has come to any harm. She is still a findable little girl. Isn`t she?

This is where the McCann story is just beyond absurd. The McCanns and their friends have suggested that a motive for Madeleine's disappearance might be paedophilia. So - if they were correct in this line of thinking - then how could Madeleine not have come to harm?

They can't have it both ways.

Nobody in their right mind would transport a child of that age on a motor bike. I'm surprised the grandmother even suggested it as a possibility.

In the 2001 Somebody Knows video, Stephen denied that he'd ever let Ben ride on his bike but Eddie said he had done so often.

Another factual event over which there should be no ambiguity.

It was her mother who considered that going off with Stephen was a possibility.

Yes, of course....

I suspect her mother knew where Ben had gone and when the pair did not arrive where they were supposed to, or come back when they were supposed to, the grandparents began to suspect what might have happened.

I just think this is by far the most likely scenario.

Over the way and elsewhere on the internet there have been some incredible analyses of witness statements.

Most people (unless fully fledged narcissists/psychopaths I imagine) find it stressful to lie. So the lie is bound up in a semblance of the truth...you see this time and time again with Kate's book, imo....

Especially a motorbike driven by a 17-year-old.

But to be fair you do see very young children on motorbikes sitting between an adult's legs in places in Europe that are laid back (eg: Greek islands) and in the third world too.

But with a 17-year-old - an accident waiting to happen, imo.

The motorbike accident can't ever be ruled out but I think it the least likely event. IIRC Stephen admitted that he would give Ben rides around the Caravan field/grove at 2 MPH but would never take him on the road proper. So that explains that contradiction for me. Eddie referencing the field rides and Stephen referencing rides on the road?

The relevant bit about riding on the bike is here at around 33.00.

Stephen says that he let Ben stand up on his bike but never drove with him on the roads. He doesn't mention riding anywhere else.

Missed that before about Simon (Ben's dad) used to take him for rides.

The 'only explanation....' as they say was to buy some time in whatever needed to be done.

IMO etc.

Ok ive driven a motorcycle .....and driving at 2mph isnt impossible but on the greek roads with a child on the back you would have to have good balance. Thats half the speed we walk at.....

Didn't Kerry say in her book that Ben would go on the bike at 2mph round the caravan but by his face you'd think he was breaking the sound barrier?
I kind of agree with TTWO that Stephen meant he wouldn't take Ben out on the road (due to lack of a helmet), but didn't count the pootling about the caravan.

You are taking the 2mph phrase too literally. It is just a figure of speech to say very slowly and carefully.

Well you wouldn't have a toddler on the back for starters. Be sat in front of you so your arms on the handlebar would sort of protect them in... If that makes sense. I would never ever do that by the way. But it probably does happen.

I've come off a Moped before on one of the Greek Isles (might of actually been Kos). For once I wasn't going that fast so came out of it sort of ok. But it is very dangerous at speed although you'd be hard pushed to go over 30mph. But obviously that's enough.

But personally I think the Moped/Uncle is a non-starter. But that's just my own thoughts.

See it all the time here. Sometimes the little kid is in front, dad riding the moped and mum or an older kid on the back. Seen all sorts being carried too including ladders. Hubby came up with a winning plan after that. He invented a roof rack for helmets. Plan failed because nobody wears helmets here. But they can drive a truck whilst drinking a poka coffee, smoking a fag and using the phone. Geniuses every one.

I wonder which sandal they are talking about - there's no mention in the book about Ben leaving a sandal behind? Or did SYP find a sandal and the remains of some leather that could have been a sandal?

Gawd I hate to say this but you'd think if they'd found leather from a sandal something far more significant would be there or very close by?

Were there reports specifically of finding leather that I missed? I thought in the end that they found 60/70 low interest items but nothing specific was mentioned?

SYP had a pair of sandals made and from what I can remember they said Ben was wearing a pair of sandals like this. I didn't realise they had them mad up to see if they matched what they had found?

I do remember the sandals SYP showed the press but I asked if I missed any reports of leather being found because if not then I would definitely agree that question and answer could be a lot more interesting....

No mention of leather - I think there was a lot of interest in the buckle of the sandal

bluebell wrote:Just my opinion, but I think Kerry had a terrible time after Ben disappeared.  She made a few suicide attempts, turned to drugs, went a bit wild (from what I have read) and frankly I find all that understandable.

All these years until recently there has been a pretty general public feeling that no help was given to searching for Ben, no money was available.

She has never had a Press Officer, government acknowledgement, lawyers for numerous litigious cases here and abroad.
It's only since MM that money has entered into the discussion in a big way imo because there is now a comparison and a sense of unfairness.

I very much doubt the family have made money from Ben's disappearance.  Unlike the parents of another little child that disappeared on a holiday with her parents and siblings who have 'managed' their loss most publicly and appear to have a sense of entitlement and have 'made' millions ££££  while doing bu**er all to find her..

Only my opinion of course and I respect the opinions of others.

I totally agree - poor woman. But in my opinion there were others in the family who hid from her what really happened.

No wonder she was so angry and went off the rails......

Who wouldn't? She had lost her son in suspicious circumstances and then I suspect was not told the truth about what happened....

The merchandise stuff is a bit gross, imo...

Really???

How many 17-year-old boys do you know who drive around on mopeds or motorbikes at 2mph???

....that's probably the same speed as the tea-pot fair rides designed for babies and young toddlers...

Sorry, but that clinches it for me.....

Case closed, as far as I am concerned...

Not sure you can conclude guilt from that Poster. If Ben was given a ride on the moped Stephen probably just pushed it round with his feet. Ben would think it great. Even if the engine was on, it is perfectly possible he would go very slowly ( 2  mph is just a figure of speech)
