Re: OPERATION GRANGE TO CONTINUE - extra funding granted
Trying to itemise the £185,000 over 6 months.
So that`s an allocation of £30,833 per month
The median salary for detectives is £38,000 per annum, so that`s £3,167 per month x 4 detectives = £12,667 per month.
£30,833 - £12,667 = £18,166 left for travel and incidentals per month - that`s one hell of a lot per month (unless there is something I`ve forgotten).

Do we know what rank they will be and if this includes an interpreter?

Re: OPERATION GRANGE TO CONTINUE - extra funding granted
I got that salary from a website which gave the median salary for a range of ranks up to inspector, which I think Nicola Wall is. I`ll try and find website again. But you have reminded me that OG officers are based in London so they will probably get more.
No I haven`t included an interpreter - good point.
PS - Found it - https://www.payscale.com/research/UK/Job=Detective_or_Criminal_Investigator/Salary

Re: OPERATION GRANGE TO CONTINUE - extra funding granted
Just done a check on what Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall would be on and it`s about £55,000 in London
"Salary[edit]
A chief inspector's starting salary is £51,789, or £53,853 if serving in London. After three years, it increases to £53,919, or £55,980 if serving in London. Officers who have been at this point for a year have access to the competence related threshold payment of £1,095 per year."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_inspector#Metropolitan_Police
So that`s about £4,600 per month. Take that off and we`re still left with about £14,000 a month to spend on travel, incidentals and an interpreter.
And if all they are doing is supposedly watching and waiting, I would have thought the junior could do that.

Re: OPERATION GRANGE TO CONTINUE - extra funding granted
TAken from Sun online: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4569974/madeleine-mccann-cops-given-154000-to-continue-search-for-missing-child-in-fresh-hope-for-parents-kate-and-gerry/
A Home Office spokesman revealed the total awarded to Operation Grange for the financial year 2017/2018 is £309,000.
The figure is made up of the new £154,000 for police operational costs, the previous £85,000 given in March, totalling £239,000.
An extra £70,000 has also come out of the budget for “recently agreed admin and employment” which does not pay for detectives.
The spokesman added: “The number of officers remains at the same level.”
Scotland Yard declined to comment on the Maddie inquiry new cash boost.
So recently agreed admin and employment (which does not include detectives) is the extra £70k - which is probably about the 14£ that Mimi speaks of.... so admin and employment - which may mean a couple of admin officers.

Thanks Helenmeg - that makes more sense now.
But if they are just watching and waiting, I can`t understand why they`d need much admin done.
Just thought - maybe one of the watchers is a top notch accountant.

All very intriguing.. But I still think that they are trying to slowly exert the pressure on the Team McCann people ( whoever that involves)... They are slowly and surely homing in on them ... Until the pressure becomes unbearable and we see cracks appear in some of the more delicate ones

I think I tend to agree. Rather than the McCanns being elated at more funding forthcoming, I think they're very likely just the opposite, as was pointed out earlier in this thread. Of course they're going to come out and say that they're happy. But I believe, as others do, that the continued investigation does nothing to make them feel positive. More funding, without a clear definition of the leads they're following, is like the persistent Inspector Javert, constantly shadowing and threatening Jean Valjean in Les Miz. The message SY is sending is... we're here...and we're not going away anytime soon...

Does the money given to OG include the detectives wages? Those detectives would be working for and paid by , the Met any way . If not working on Grange they would be involved in some other investigation .

Yes, supposedly, PMR.
I know they get a salary automatically but it may be that their admin people have to justify exactly what each officer does every hour of the day so, together with all the other incidentals, they can justify the money spent on each Operation and thence justify to the Home Office who are the ones paying them.
One of the main complaints about policing these days is the amount of paperwork they have to do, a lot of it to prove they are not time wasting.

Re: OPERATION GRANGE TO CONTINUE - extra funding granted
From the Sunday Times this morning:
A £12m investigation of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been granted an extra £154,000 because detectives are hunting a “person of significance”.
A source close to Operation Grange — Scotland Yard’s six-year search for Madeleine — has said finding the person is one of the “critical lines of inquiry” that police hope may help to solve the mystery. Madeleine, who was then three, disappeared in May 2007 while on holiday with her family in Portugal.
Last week the Home Office announced the funding that will keep four detectives on the investigation until the end of March next year. The source said: “It is as much to rule the person out of the inquiry as anything else.”The Portuguese investigation of Madeleine’s disappearance was criticised by the British authorities as being not fit for purpose. Scotland Yard began an investigative review into the disappearance in 2011.
However, The Sunday Times understands that Met detectives have been relying on Portuguese transcripts of key interviews with British witnesses, rather than conducting their own.
Operation Grange has conducted no formal witness interviews with Gerry or Kate McCann or the seven friends they dined with on the night Madeleine disappeared.
Colin Sutton, a former Met detective chief inspector, said: “I would conduct fresh interviews with all the key British witnesses. We’re talking about interviews given by the McCanns and friends through an interpreter, written down in Portuguese and then translated back into English so officers from Grange can read them. The room for error would be enormous.”
The Met said the Operation Grange team would not comment while the investigation was ongoing.

Interesting Helenmeg, thank you. A lot of neglectful policing exposed there.
Right, so they are trying to FIND a particular person who is of SIGNIFICANCE. Surely that`s easy enough in this day and age unless the person has escaped to Brazil or Argentina.

Hang on....How does:
Equate with:
Is it just me that sees a big contradiction here?
Also this quotes Colin Sutton who according to TextUSA works for the other side/is a all round bad apple.

I still think very few people know what OG is actually doing, those that do aren't saying much. Therefore people are playing join the dots and filling in gaps for themselves

One of the most seriously regarded sighting was in Amsterdam, 2008.
Shopkeeper Anna Maria Stam told cops a three or four-year-old girl who resembled Madeleine, told her she was with a "stranger" who had taken her "away from mummy".

The words `person of significance` - goodness knows what it means.
Do they mean an influential person, a well known person, a brave person, a criminal person - what?
We are all `significant` to those around us aren`t we ?
I`m significant to my dog.

Even the finding bit is ambiguous. Are they trying to discover this person's identity, or do they know who they are seeking and it is their physical location that they are unsure of?
Or is it all just so much bollocks?

Yep, the `finding` bit is odd. In this day and age, interpol, technology being what it is. Mind you they never found Lord Lucan.

I still think there is some relevance in Alison Saunders of our Crown Prosecution Service, and her assistant, flying to Portugal to chat with the PJ. It must have been about bringing a prosecution of a UK citizen. Although it is a Portuguese case, there must be a strong link to person/s in the UK.

It's the Daily Mail ...
ETA Sorry, I was referring to your previous mail.
I agree that there's some significance in high-up people in the criminal field, visiting PT.
