The McCanns have repeatedly said the false accusations against them have harmed the search for Madeleine.
Gerry has been quoted as saying: 'I'm sure it's a very small minority of people who spend their time doing it, but it has totally inhabited what we do.'
The quote from Gerry is good though! Judging by comments after stories they have very little public support, and why would they? And I like the typo. The expression that springs to mind is: 'You can fool all of the people some of the time, or some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.'
This from Detective Amaral is interesting, though:
'What I know is that the suspect is not him, it's another man. He's also in prison in Germany. He's also a paedophile.
I suspect the above is constructed from a much more expansive quote, or has been 'rearranged' in some way. Nevertheless, I wonder if there is any credence to the Shrimpton story? I know it's been debunked (allegedly!) but there has been much talk of paedophile rings, not least from the Mcs and Tapas adults themselves, at least initially.
Kate's book is also an interesting exhibit in this respect, imo.

The McCanns' 'Christmas Heartache'
Ah here it is. From 11th December - the McCanns Christmas heartache as they face their 13th Christmas without Madeleine.
Gerry and Kate apparently miss holding Madeleine and hugging her, among other things. They have it seems vowed to continue the worldwide hunt which is strange given that they didn't bother to search for her on the night she went missing.
Try as I might, I have trouble reconciling the man who sat like a bear with a sore head on the airport bus en route to that fateful holiday with the man who, since his daughter hasdied gone missing has apparently undergone a metamorphosis, eulogizing about the daughter he didn't bother to search for on the night she died disappeared.
On the airport bus at the start of that fateful holiday Gerry behaves like a thug, swearing in front of his family and the Paynes family and telling them that he 'wasn't here to enjoy himself'. Madeleine sits nearby but he totally ignores her as he does the rest of his family.
The adults all laugh at this spiteful and childish little display so clearly this is normal Gerry behaviour when around his family.
Honestly, the Kate and Gerry 'things they miss about Madeleine' really is totally inappropriate given that Madeleine has been missing since before her fourth birthday and, if alive, would now be 16.
It is strange though, isn't it? On that fateful holiday you would have thought that the parents would have been spending time doing and enjoying all those things that they say they miss about her. But there is no evidence that they did many of those things on the holiday. They spent lots of time playing tennis. There are no family photos from the holiday. And we all know how much Gerry was looking forward to a week's holiday with Madeleine and the rest of the family as he told everyone on the airport bus.
Its easy to eulogize about someone when they are no longer a living, breathing reality, imo.

Oh my goodness,
MADDIE HOPE
Madeleine McCann’s parents given fresh hope as German boy missing for two years is found in cupboard at ‘paedo’s’ home
THE parents of Madeleine McCann have been given fresh hope their daughter could still be alive after it was reported that a German boy missing for two years has been found safe.
The 15-year-old kidnap victim was discovered by chance by police in the cupboard at the home of a suspected paedophile.
A close pal of the McCann’s, who are facing their 13th Christmas without their daughter, said they had been “buoyed up” by the news.
The family friend said: "It shows that dreams can come true and this teenage boy being found two years after he disappeared is another example that will give Kate and Gerry hope.
"This is the news they are dreaming of receiving themselves one day and it is heart warming that the child can be reunited with his family for Christmas."
The source said: “They are always buoyed up when they hear stories of kidnapped children being found. It really does give them renewed hope and some joy.”
The boy, named by German newspapers as Marvin K, was found in the same clothes that he went missing in a house in Recklinghausen, 60 miles north of Cologne.
Cops were last night holding a 44-year-old unemployed handyman called Lars H on suspicion of sharing images of child abuse.
His thrilled mum Manuela, 53, said: "He held on to me really tightly and he began to tremble.
"He said 'Mummy, take me home. I was locked away for two and a half years and I couldn't get any fresh air'.
"We both cried. He took my hand and wouldn't let go.I always said he was either dead or somewhere he could not get in touch with me.”
Marvin was 13 when he went missing after being taken into a nearby care home after the death of his father.
Maddie disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal’s Praia da Luz more than twelve and a half years ago.
She had been left sleeping alone with her younger twin siblings while her parents were dining in a nearby tapas bar with pals.
Her parents fear she was snatched by a sex fiend and could still be alive and being held against her will. She would now be aged 16.

'RENEWED HOPE'
Heart doctor Gerry and ex GP Kate, both 51, of Rothley, Leics, cling onto a glimmer of hope that Maddie, who vanished as three-year-old in May 2007, could still be alive. The source said: “They are always buoyed up when they hear stories of kidnapped children being found. It really does give them renewed hope and some joy.”

Not a lot you can say about that really!
There have been a few cases where children have been taken by paedophiles and not killed but not at such a young age as Madeleine.

What does any one get from this crap.
Star on line.
Madeleine McCann alive in Germany and now called Melanie, claims police psychic
Fia Johansson – who has reportedly worked with US law enforcement agencies on missing person cases – believes the girl is alive and well
With the caveat.
Back in May, a spokesman for the Official Find Madeline Campaign on Facebook announced that her parents Kate and Gerry “do not believe in psychics or mediums”.

Re: Tabloid Rags: Various inane stories
Given that the 'sex attacks in the Algarve' story is being dusted down in time for Christmas, I can well see how the couple might have 'complete confidence' in Scotland Yard.
It would be interesting to see the evidence for these alleged attacks. Were there ever any prosecutions? Why weren't holiday-makers warned about these attacks if the criminals were still at large?
The gruesome twosome seem to be keeping a low profile these days. Perhaps because, imo, as each year goes by the story becomes sillier and sillier.
This was the story that Kate told in her book of the truth to bolster the idea that the Algarve was awash with paedophiles.
Still, the Star is not exactly to be taken seriously.

Don't get hurt in the rush to buy the Brain of Britain's book. I wonder what other cases are mentioned and if he takes the credit for solving them.

From the link about the book.
"Death has a unique smell. I've been in the presence of people who have killed; I've been in rooms where people have been killed. I've seen the unspeakable things human beings are capable of. None of that puts me off my aim; I want to see those people caught, convicted and sent to jail".
This from the man who was in Tia Sharp's grandmother's house and interviewed her killer Stuart Hazell, oblivious to the body being hidden in the house.

Unless anybody knows differently, I doubt this actually made the print edition of the Mirror. Which does beg the question, what's the point?
I wouldn't die of surprise if I learned that these stories are generated automatically by some kind of artificial "intelligence".

Re: Tabloid Rags: Various inane stories
There was speculation that the McCanns visited Kelly's bar that fateful week. There was an undercover reporter filming of Mrs Fenn's hairdresser telling the undercover reporter that the McCann parents were at Kelly's bar on the Tuesday evening, which I think is when neighbour Mrs Fenn heard prolonged crying coming from the apartment 5A.

Kelly's Bar - the one where the Smith family were on the night of 3rd May?
I shall read those links - I may be having a senior moment but I don't recall hearing that the McCanns ever went there.
I've only just realised that it's the one mentioned in the latest steaming heap of tabloid trash.

Oh, sorry - I think the undercover reporter was told by Mrs Fenn's hairdresser that the McCanns visited Chaplins on the evening that Mrs Fenn heard crying. Yes - it was Kelly's bar where the Smith family were on the night of 3rd May.
I stand corrected. Whether or not any of the above is true or not!

Re: Tabloid Rags: Various inane stories
The link, however, does suggest that the McCanns visited Kelly's Bar on 1st and 2nd May and might have watched the football matches. Whereas we have Mrs Fenn's hairdresser stating that the McCanns dined at Chaplin's the night Mrs Fenn heard crying.
Perhaps they visited both during that week and maybe more than one location in an evening? There was a quiz night at Kelly's on Monday.
As the link suggests there were big football matches on and a rowdy British crowd would have congregated at the bar/s to watch football on a big screen. As the link suggests, could this possibly be what Jane Tanner is alluding to when she claims in that reconstruction that Kate was sitting at the dinner table moaning that Gerry was spending too long watching football?
Was the hugely elaborate Tapas 'checking' story designed to cover-up the fact that they were even further afield sometimes than the Tapas bar/restaurant. But surely all this would be very easy to have found out, what with other hotel residents and locals being out and about using the bars and restaurants? I think the McCanns and their friends are reasonably distinctive-looking so would have been noticed by other people whether holiday-makers or locals.
What Mrs Fenn's hairdresser says to the undercover reporter does tend to suggest that - where-ever the McCanns were on the evening Mrs Fenn heard crying coming from the apartment - the half-hourly checks did not happen, at least didn't happen on that evening. It is on record in Kate's book that on Wednesday evening there was a space of around three-quarters of an hour that the children were left alone as the group moved into the bar at the Tapas after diner. This was the one departure recorded from their usual evening routine from Sunday evening up to that fateful Thursday. It is curious, perhaps, why Kate admitted to this apparently laxity in their 'checking' arrangements. Was it to allow for Mrs Fenn's overhearing of crying (albeit the incident has by placed by Kate as happening a day later - Wednesday rather than Tuesday)? Or was it possibly closer to the truth in terms of how frequently checks were made, if we are to believe Mrs Fenn's hairdresser who claimed the children were left alone for up to an hour and a half while the parents dined out?
And if the McCanns had been dining or drinking further afield, then the checks would have been more of a palaver.

It may be a forum myth but there was a report that the McCanns were at Chaplins and someone was sent to fetch them to attend to their crying children. It seems unlikely - how would anyone have known where they were?

Re: Tabloid Rags: Various inane stories
Despite what has been said over the road about Mrs Fenn not being a credible witness, why would she not be? She is in the apartment directly above the McCann family. She gave a police statement to the effect that she heard a child crying for over an hour and that crying escalated until Mrs Fenn heard the patio doors below opening (or closing) upon which the child stopped crying abruptly. So concerned was Mrs Fenn about the crying that she contacted a friend to discuss it with her.
The McCanns have claimed that they left the children alone in the apartment and went back and checked on them every now and then but have admitted that there was at least one evening when the children were left as long as 45-50 minutes between checks. I think this is the evening Mrs Fenn hears the crying.
The McCanns admit that their children cried on several evenings, in particular on the Wednesday evening when it is claimed that Madeline asked her parents the following morning why they didn't come when she and Sean cried the previous evening.
All the above, whether true or not (although I see no reason why Mrs Fenn would lie) and whether it happened how it was described would be completely consistent with what the McCann's claimed they did. You would EXPECT children to cry for extended periods of time if they woke up and found their parents missing and there was no responsible adult or babysitter there to comfort them and they had no way of contacting or finding their parents. Therefore, Mrs Fenn hearing crying coming from the McCanns' apartment would be quite logical and likely, given that the children were, apparently, left at night unattended. The abduction story relies on the McCann children having been left alone to make it work so TM could hardly complain when and if this became a topic of conversation.
There would inevitably been a lot of talk among guests, staff and locals about what happened following Madeleine's alleged abduction and it may be that some (possibly Mrs Fenn was one of them) were not entirely convinced by the McCann version of events.
In a small community like Luz, people would know each other and not be anonymous like they can be in larger cities. I've never seen any reason not to believe Mrs Fenn and when she became exasperated and was filmed getting cross and muttering: 'It's all rubbish' or words to that effect, she would not have been referring to her police statement imo (because that would have been admitting to perjury) but presumably to press intrusion, other things that had been reported about her, or possibly to the whole abduction story.
I'm sure she wasn't the only local who thought that and it is on record that her understandably measured response to Kate and Fiona's hysteria on the night of the alleged abduction was met with a barrage of verbal assault from the pair. Hardly the response one would expect, if they truly believed that Madeleine had been stolen from the apartment below Mrs Fenn.
I do wish this odious group of people would be called to account for what happened to poor Madeleine.
