Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
I don't think we've mentioned another infamous "disappeared from her bedroom" case from 1997.

Some interesting cases from here : https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/remuera-woman-pauline-hannas-death-husband-and-eye-specialist-philip-polkinghorne-says-hes-been-treated-as-person-of-suspect/VDT4KZL4UP6IKZSKUYOQ62GT6E/?ref=readmore "Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said Pauline Hanna had received her second Covid vaccine the day before she died. That line was removed at the request of her family because they did not want the anti-vax community to think the vaccine is connected to her death. There is no suggestion it is."

Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
It's good to hear from one of the few survivors we have left here!
The Amber-Lee case has been mentioned before, probably way back on this topic.
As for Pauline Hanna, alarm bells go off immediately when a marriage is described as perfect! "Our relationship wasn't fine, it wasn't fine at all, it was perfect." I've been watching a lot of true crime documentaries lately involving spouse murders and a fair number of them involve "perfect relationships".
It hasn't been announced yet how she died - could it be natural causes?

Pauline Hanna case...
An update on the Pauline Hanna case -
I've still no idea what's going on, though.

A couple more bits of news regarding Pauline Hanna's death

Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
I don't think we've mentioned Darlie Routier before. In 1996 she claimed that an intruder broke into her home and killed her two young sons. Here is The Behaviour Panel's hot off the press analysis of her body language. The scene at the graveyard is mind-boggling - people can react to grief in strange ways but there are limits!

Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
Auckland police investigating the unexplained sudden death of a Covid health boss in Remuera have questioned a masseuse who was a close companion of her husband.
Meanwhile, a Thursday evening fire at the Upland Rd home where Pauline Hanna died five weeks earlier, in which flames shot high into the air, is believed to be the result of an accident involving a leaking gas bottle, Stuff understands.
Police are yet to make an arrest or lay charges following Hanna’s death on April 5 at the home she shared with her husband, eye surgeon Philip Polkinghorne.
Detectives continue to officially treat her death as “unexplained” and Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe is saying little in his public statements.
Investigators are casting a wide net in their inquiry, dubbed Operation Kian, interviewing various people in Polkinghorne’s colourful social milieu.
On Tuesday, a detective visited the Remuera flat of his barber – a man with whom he had spent time socially with a mutual female friend - asking him to come in for an interview the following day.
Stuff has also learned detectives have been questioning a masseuse based on the North Shore as part of their enquiries into Hanna’s death.
Neighbours said the eye surgeon was a frequent visitor to the unit she owned, sometimes seeing his white Mercedes C-Class sedan several times a week. He was among several male clients.
Late in March, just days before Hanna's death, Polkinghorne acted as the woman’s proxy at a meeting of the body corporate.
Only his first and second names, Philip John, are recorded in the body corporate minutes.
Detectives have also quizzed neighbours in the masseuse’s block of flats, with at least one being brought in for a formal interview.
The masseuse did not want to comment when approached by Stuff.
On Thursday, emergency services rushed to the $4m Upland Rd property following multiple reports of a fire, including, Stuff understands, one from Polkinghorne himself.
A neighbour, who declined to be named, said he heard a strange noise just before 6pm and went to investigate.
Two fire appliances arrived within minutes and the fire did not spread. No injuries were reported.
“Given the height of the flames I can't believe the house didn't burn down,” the neighbour said.
Stuff understands it is not being treated as suspicious and was caused by a hose leading to an LPG bottle deteriorating, resulting in a gas leak which caught fire.
Hanna, 63, was Polkinghorne's second wife. He has three adult children from a previous marriage, one of whom recently returned from London.
The families of both Polkinghorne and Hanna have declined to comment.
Polkinghorne did not respond to a fresh request for comment on Friday, submitted to his lawyer, leading criminal defence lawyer David Jones QC.

Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
Thanks for that. Does masseuse mean what it does here in the U K - a female who provides shall we say extra unlicensed services?
This all seems very strange without a cause of death being known - it could be natural causes or suicide.
Re the picture you posted on 13th May, I assume that the police don't normally dress in jeans?

Pressure intensifies...
Hello Freedom - "masseuse" in this case I think refers to an extended scope of practice -
- I think otherwise the papers'd refer to her as a "massage therapist" or "sports masseuse".
A couple of days ago, they were reporting traces of methamphetamine were found in the marital home.
This morning it looks like Dr P is getting investigated at work :
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/remuera-death-husband-philip-polkinghorne-faces-review-by-concerned-colleagues/FJ63HCOIFYUP6QN4H22AJK2XWM/
A prominent eye surgeon whose wife died in "unexplained" circumstances at their $4 million Remuera home is now facing a review by his colleagues.
Auckland Eye said it was "concerned" by information published by the New Zealand Herald earlier this week that traces of methamphetamine had been found during a police search of the home in the upmarket Auckland home which Philip Polkinghorne shared with his wife of almost 30 years, Pauline Hanna. Auckland Eye also confirmed that Polkinghorne has also resigned from its board.
Almost six weeks on, police are still treating the death as "unexplained".
"We were concerned about the information published recently in the New Zealand Herald. We have structured clinical review processes in place to ensure our medical practices are of the very highest standards," Auckland Eye chief executive Deb Boyd said in a statement.
"We have been reviewing Dr Polkinghorne's recent clinical practice and out of an abundance of caution, we are in the process of appointing an independent clinical expert to assist in this review."
Polkinghorne is now on extended bereavement leave.
His photo and profile have been removed from the Auckland Eye website.
"I can confirm Dr Polkinghorne has resigned from the board," Boyd added.

More Remuera dodginess...
Still no answers as to the mysterious death of Pauline Hanna, but her husband looks more and more dubious -

Nothing reported in the papers. According to this: https://feeds.transistor.fm/conflict-of-mistress-99732cb8-2c6e-411a-b0ce-56e283088407 Pauline suicided by hanging after breaking into the family home.

25 years on from what was a very controversial case. I've just started watching the first episode and it's very interesting.
I'll wait till the end to see if my opinion changes on whether or not there was justice served here.

Re: Miscellaneous Criminal Cases
I don't remember the case at the time though it certainly seems that the media went into overdrive with it.
What struck me was how the attitude changed when Louise was cleared of murder and released. The media was screaming about the injustice done to this "innocent young girl" before then, only for them to descend into a hate-fest against her - don't let her near children etc.

What a dreadful case this is. No prizes I think for realising that the teenage boy is Logan's half-brother, same mother. If he and the others are found guilty, I hope they get what they deserve in prison.
