Re: Celebrity deaths
Will stick this one here:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3732222/Billionaire-landowner-Duke-Westminster-dies-aged-64.html
By all accounts he was a thoroughly nice chap but I do wonder if there any 'skeletons in the closet' that may come out about him in the near future.
RIP anyway.

Re: Celebrity deaths
I stress that he is still alive - so no need for shrieks of "I don't believe it" - but this doesn't look good for Richard Wilson.

Re: Celebrity deaths
Not really a 'celebrity' as such (most of you probably haven't heard of him) - but was a very good footballer back in the day.
Shocking stuff:

Re: Celebrity deaths
According to the comments I have seen on MSN website re this story it is very poor reporting. They are telling people to read the local newspapers....Andrew wrote:Not really a 'celebrity' as such (most of you probably haven't heard of him) - but was a very good footballer back in the day.

Here are two comments.
Bill Wakefield
The reporting of this story by the BBC, Sky and other outlets is outrageous!! You'd think the Police had just popped off a tazer for the hell of it. The media really wants to paint this as a Black Lives Matter outrage, but if you read the local press you get the facts. His father Ernest has already been reported as saying his son turned up to the house 'drunk or on drugs', and he was 'angry, threatening and upset'. It also transpires, according to the local media, that Dalian had a medical condition and had been receiving treatment. Where are these facts in the press?!!!!! Does the media just want to wait for a riot before the facts are told? The BBC has ignored the comments of his father, but have quoted his nephew Fabian, who said the Police should be aware of someone's medical history before deploying tazer. How the hell are the Police supposed to do that when responding to a 999 call of a man acting in a threatening manner outside a house?! This is a tragic conclusion to an avoidable incident, but the Police are not to blame. However, the lynch mob press would rather stoke the flames a bit more in the hope of a bigger and better story. Shame on you!!!
Bill Wakefield
Clive Donaldson - That's exactly my point Clive. The national media are painting a completely different picture to the events on the ground. You should be able to rely on the national media to report the facts when you live in a different part of the country, but in this case the BBC, Sky etc have their own agenda, and appear to be purposely withholding information. Why? Are they hoping for a 'reaction' from certain protest groups??
Too true Bill. Read the Birmingham and Shropshire press, they give interviews with local residents, some of who witessed the scene

Re: Celebrity deaths
Thanks for that, CF.
Not had chance really to read up on it all as yet. First I heard was when I was listening to Talk Sport on the way home from work.
Here's the Shropshire news article as mentioned:

Re: Celebrity deaths
Yes, the true story now coming out, all the papers carrying how he was in a 'manic' state. What else are the police supposed to do? Quote below from this link...
Ex-Aston Villa footballer Dalian Atkinson threatened to kill his father before being Tasered by police, brother reveals
[snipped]
He said his brother had attacked their 85-year-old father, Ernest, at his home on Monday before police were called to the scene.
"My brother had lost it. He was in a manic state and depressed - out of his mind and ranting. He had a tube in his shoulder for the dialysis and he had ripped it out and was covered in blood," he told the newspaper.
"He got Dad by the throat and said he was going to kill him. He told Dad he had already killed me, our brother Paul and sister Elaine and he had come for him.

Re: Celebrity deaths
Very sad, a good man, by all accounts, who advocated assisted death...........
Actor and campaigner Lord Rix dies aged 92
Actor and disability campaigner Lord Rix has died aged 92, his family said.
The president of the learning disability charity Mencap had been terminally ill and urged Parliament to change the law on assisted dying.
He had previously opposed an assisted dying law, but said his illness had left him "like a beached whale" and in constant discomfort.
As Brian Rix, he performed on stage and TV, specialising in a series of post-war "Whitehall farce" comedies.
For more than 30 years his farces, which starred the likes of comic greats Tommy Cooper and Sid James, were hits on TV and stage, and earned Rix the reputation for his trousers always falling down.
From 1980 to 1988 he was secretary general of Mencap, becoming chairman in 1988 and then president 10 years later - a role he occupied until his death.
In 2006 short breaks for carers became Law - an issue he had been lobbying on for 12 years. In the same year he introduced amendments to the Childcare Bill, which extended childcare provision for disabled children from 16 to 18.
His work on the 2006 Electoral Administration Bill also led to people with a learning disability being able to vote.
The crossbench peer voted against an Assisted Dying Bill in 2006 because of concerns that people with learning disabilities might become the unwilling victims of euthanasia. But his own experience of dying led him to change his position.

Reforms
It was after his eldest daughter was born in 1951 with Down's syndrome that he began campaigning for people with learning disabilities. From 1980 to 1988 he was secretary general of Mencap, becoming chairman in 1988 and then president 10 years later - a role he occupied until his death.

Re: Celebrity deaths
Snipped from above link...
"Unhappily, my body seems to be constructed in such a way that it keeps me alive in great discomfort when all I want is to be allowed to slip into a sleep, peacefully, legally and without any threat to the medical or nursing profession," he wrote.
"I am sure there are many others like me who having finished with life wish their life to finish.
"Only with a legal euthanasia Bill on the statute books will the many people who find themselves in the same situation as me be able to slip away peacefully in their sleep instead of dreading the night."

'Slip away peacefully'
Lord Rix, who died on Saturday morning, wrote to the speaker of the House of Lords earlier this month, explaining why he wanted legislation pushed through to allow those in his situation to be helped to die."Unhappily, my body seems to be constructed in such a way that it keeps me alive in great discomfort when all I want is to be allowed to slip into a sleep, peacefully, legally and without any threat to the medical or nursing profession," he wrote.

Not to me - I assume he was American with a name like that. I looked at the links and he only starred in stuff for kids.

Yes he's American and to be fair after looking at his Wiki page, then I actually thought he did a lot more films than he did. So not surprising really that you may not have heard of him. Especially if you've never watched Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

But they`re all silly.
The only film I`ve ever laughed my socks off was the first Police Academy.
