This horrific crash has been discussed before but no idea where. Anyway they're going to show it in cinemas according to this:

I read about that yesterday. A terrible accident.

I love dogs myself but I wouldn't chase after one across a busy motorway though....

This is such a tragic one. I'm sure you've all seen it in the news. A bit more about the cause etc:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4525972/girl-killed-rapids-ride-hit-boat.html

Schoolgirl, 11, killed when she fell from Drayton Manor's Splash Canyon rapids ride 'was trying to get out of the water when she was hit by a boat carrying her teachers'
Girl who died riding theme park water ride was killed when another 'boat hit her'
Evha Jannath died after she fell from her dinghy at Drayton Manor, Staffordshire
It was thought she drowned after she hit her head, fell in the waters and drowned
Water was shallow and a witness says Evha was safe in the water before she died

I think this post is better here than on the criminal case topic.

What an appalling horror this one is.

Other reports say that her baby was not with her at the time which seems more likely as I don't know how she could have survived either.

As someone that drives a van regularly and sees all sorts of bad driving across all groups it honestly doesn't surprise me anymore as much as it is shocking. Drivers hating driving, phone in hand/to ear even when car has Bluetooth! and in-car touch screen tech as made driving much more dangerous than it already was IMO.

My guess from the released info is the first truck driver who was drunk (AIM truck) stopped in lane one thinking he was on the hard shoulder for whatever reason. Minibus comes along shortly after and can't stop in time and crashes into the stationary truck. Moments later the FedEx truck comes along and crushes the minibus under the first truck. I do wonder if the Police have evidence of this second truck driver being distracted in some way (on phone, watching TV etc) as he has also been charged quickly with death by dangerous rather than death by careless driving. It would be rare but the driver might have confessed to being distracted by something or the truck(s) are fitted with dash cameras? We'll have to wait and see how this transpires.

Accidents/deaths - unusual, bizarre or just plain awful - Page 4 Empty TOT FATAL RIVER FALL: First picture of tragic toddler, two, who died ‘after falling into a river while feeding the ducks just metres away from her mum’

Post  chrissie Tue 05 Sep 2017, 11:48 am

A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl died after falling into a river while reportedly feeding the ducks just metres away from her mum.

Ruby Tyers had gone to The Embankment near Peterborough city centre with her mother Wendy Gray who was helping out at the Key Feste arts' festival on Sunday.

Ruby's older step-brother Harrison Hepton, 19, visited the scene of the tragedy today to lay a floral tribute.

He told how their mother had been working at the festival at the time.

He said: "Someone told mum there was a girl in the river.

"My mother screamed.

"I wasn't anywhere near.

He described Ruby as a 'regular' two year old girl, energetic and curious.

Local carpet fitter, Andrew Marseden, witnessed the tragedy.

The 36-year-old said there were around 500 people milling around the riverside walkway and nearby tents but no-one had spotted the girl in the water at first.

Andrew added: "She was feeding the ducks and fell in face first.

"Mum was helping out disabled kids and near some tents in front of the river where the girl fell in.

"The little girl would have been about 30 feet way.

"It's not the family's fault. My kids wander off all the time."

He expressed his concern that the local council had not installed railings along that stretch of river.

Initially Ruby's condition was described as "critical but stable", however she sadly "took a turn for the worse" and died at Peterborough City Hospital this morning.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and it is being treated as a "tragic accident".

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: "Emergency services were called to the The Embankment in Peterborough at 3.15pm yesterday to reports of a child in the water.

"A two-year-old girl was taken to hospital. She was initially described as in a critical but stable condition but sadly she took a turn for the worse in the last few hours and has sadly passed away."

Arts festival Key Feste was underway at the time of the tragedy and events were halted while emergency services attended.

Dramatic pictures show the air ambulance and dozens of police officers at the scene on the River Nene.

This is so tragic but leaving a two year old alone, feeding ducks at the edge of a river? The mother wasn't that far away but the tot was unsupervised

It does sound a bit odd. I wonder how long it was before someone noticed what had happened.

That is a strange one, if anyone sees a 2yr old fall into a river obviously the first thing is to get her out, or maybe he means he seen her lying face down in the water?

What kind of accident could happen during the night that takes two babies lives but not the third? Maybe it's classed as an accident until it's known for sure that it was cot death scratch Even then, both on the same night?

Who would ever expect to be hit by a bolt of lightening whilst learning surfing.  The odds must be trillions to one. Shocked

Ex-Belgium footballer Denis Dasoul, 34, killed in freak accident after being struck by lightning while learning to surf

[snipped]

Dasoul paddled out with his instructor on Sunday afternoon - despite grey clouds and light drizzle overhead at the Batu Bolong beach in the Canggu district

At around 2.15pm horrified witnesses described seeing a massive bolt of lightning unexpectedly tear down from the sky and hit Denis close to the shore.

The 34-year-old died instantly

That's unlucky. It has to be said though, I'd never heard of the bloke. And I know football.

Now this was an unfortunate sports related death.
