Thanks for that. As expected, her parents aren't happy about it.

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
The verdict makes it less likely they could get money from the holiday complex if they sued for inadequate security etc.
I expect an appeal.

I see they're going to lengths to criticise the local police response. I wonder where they got that idea from?

Mr Q's evidence. He's "dissing" the dog - now where have we heard that before?
The bit about sister Innes noticing that Nora was not in bed when she went to the toilet and assuming that she was with their parents is strange as the bathroom it appears could only be accessed through their bedroom so didn't Innes notice she wasn't there?
Innes is due to give evidence herself so it will be interesting to hear what she says.
From the same source as this I expect, Mr U!

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
The Qoirins are now officially appealing the inquest verdict. They want it changed to an open verdict.
I'm wondering if this is going to cost them a small fortune in addition to the costs they have already had. Surely time to move on. What is certain is that poor Nora died a horrible death, alone and frightened. Nothing can change that. Time to move on?

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
From the earlier BBC link - "Louise Azmi, one lawyer for the family, said they had pressed for an open verdict to reflect the lack of positive evidence in the case regarding what happened to Nora.
An open verdict would leave open the possibility that a criminal element was involved in Nora's death, Mrs Azmi said.
She told the BBC based on everything the family know of Nora, "they continue to believe it is impossible she would have willingly walked away into the jungle".

I think the motive behind this disappearance is money.

I wouldn't like to think that the disappearance was planned but, once it had happened, a decision was made to get something out of it.

You're still referring to Nora Quoirin, right?

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
It could indeed refer to someone else but I was thinking only of the Quoirins here!

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
New verdict by court out today - changed misadventured to an open verdict.
Does this mean the parents can sue the resort?

Sorry Antonia I didn't mean to tick the dislike box!
Funnily enough I was just thinking of Nora before I got the notification of your post.

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
Nora's parents have just settled their case against a retired solicitor who made 'offensive' Facebook posts about the case. The financial settlement is not disclosed.
This is reminding me of another set of parents who did not like others making comments on their missing daughter's case.

Thanks for that - you can guess that I thought of another retired solicitor!

I have heard of Anne Brennan and will look back on previous posts to remind myself of what she said.

Re: The Strange Case of Nora Quoirin
Just read a media report.
This retired solicitor said she did not pay any compensation and that she agreed to shut up and both sides paid their own legal costs. This solicitor would have been representing herself so limited costs.
So the Quoirins got no money and had to pay their own costs. Hardly a victory. They really wanted to shut up Anne Brennan. I can't find her offending comments; obviously now taken down due to the case.
