The word is: take in all information available, digest and, if possible, get to a conclusion on that basis. If additional information becomes available: do the same thing and so on ...
THAT is awareness :-) Paranoia is unfounded.

Re: Missing flight MH370
My feelings on 'conspiracy theories' are these:
- I don't like the term, it is used as a pejorative and as a keyword to tell the masses that something is the product of lunatics
- 'Lunatics' *are* attracted to conspiracy theories, but this doesn't imply that every person that believes these theories is a lunatic
- I base my theories upon evidence, and stay undecided if there is insufficient evidence
- I do not automatically believe anything I see in the media or from governments
- Tragedies can and do happen without the aid of dark organisations working in the shadows
The disappearance of MH370, followed a few months later by the shooting down of MH17 - two identical passenger jets from the same airline - stretches credibility for me. At the time that MH370 disappeared, I treated the theories that sprang up with skepticism. I still do, but the shooting down of MH17 made me immediately suspicious.
My theory is that the two are connected in some way, but I simply do not have enough evidence to say any more than that. It could be a coincidence, but my heart says no, that the combination of the two events is too improbable.
I think a small amount of paranoia is a healthy thing, but it needs to work within a framework of evidence-based analysis.

I agree WLBTS. I've heard on the grapevine that 'crisis actors' and 'truthers' have also been coined deliberately to be pejorative terms.
I had an argument with my brother about MH370: he said people don't like to imagine that tragic events like this happen by accident, i.e. there's so many flights in the world that one is bound to crash now and again. Because people can't face this dismal reality, they invent conspiracy theories. I was annoyed by this and said you have to question things more.
What annoyed me is that I used to subsribe to his logic, and think it was the ADULT outlook on life. Whereas I thought conspiracies were for teenagers and sixth formers. The annoying thing is though, is that he doesn't realise this. He thinks I'm just a teenager who never grew up and doesn't realise I'm an adult who has passed through various stages of viewing the world.

Missing flight MH370
I can hardly believe that it's a year ago that this plane disappeared and there's still no idea what happened to it.

Re: Missing flight MH370
Yet a month later Discovery had a documentary ready which could easily be mistaken for an advert for biometrics. Indicating it was all the captain's fault and his state of mind could easily have been revealed by biometric sensors - and thus prevented the event.Freedom wrote:I can hardly believe that it's a year ago that this plane disappeared and there's still no idea what happened to it.

As it's a year ago I wonder if they will run that bunch of outright lies again. They misinformed us as to the military capabilities tracking air traffic - worth a look.

Re: Missing flight MH370
In my village there are two pilots, well Captains to be precise. I have asked both of them what they think happened to this flight and both have stated they are baffled as are their colleagues. I did read some conspiracy theory last year (sorry cannot remember where) that a duplicate aircraft was being stored at a secret hanger in Pakistan. At the time it did seem to make sense, but to be honest I like to deal in factual information.

Well it isn't in the sea, because in a whole year not a single part of it has been washed up

Watching the news stories on it thy have mentioned it is odd that no mobile phones have been tracked. Even if switched off they can be traced. Odd?

Re: Missing flight MH370
Eta: iirc the documentary did not refer much to the large number of Chinese IT experts who were on the flight.
Now: possibly unrelated but the air traffic controller on duty during 9/11 who kept asking for IDs for half an hour instead of pulling the alarm cord, was the same one who was on duty not long before when an Egyptair flight full of high level Egyptian military got 'lost' over the Atlantic.
Just coincidence ot perhaps not. One would have to look at the political implications of the loss of these people to the countries concerned.

They can only be tracked from base stations, or masts. No masts in the ocean.

I know nothing of such things but they did say this yesterday on the news. Some expert or other.

Re: Missing flight MH370
But a plane flying across the ocean in the general direction of the US will be tracked by US military satellites imo.

The military is a different matter.
I too would have no doubt that they are capable of tracking in fact, most moving things.

Rofl! I forgot to get one for Tiger and that cat looks exactly like him. Don't have a TV - that's stymied them!

Re: Missing flight MH370
There are some very unsavoury people out there (not that we didn't know already) to publish stories like this one.
http://yournewswire.com/mh370-pilot-resurfaces-in-taiwan-two-years-after-flight-disappeared/
It is of course a hoax.
