Re: The case of writer Helen Bailey
Another sensible sentence.
The horror of what he did - putting a human being (not to mention a dog) who was possibly still alive in a cesspit - is beyond belief.

I must admit, I wasn't expecting 34 years. I thought it'd be 25.
Great work by all concerned who helped secure that conviction.

Judge Bright on his summing up stated it was just piles - I will look for the Judges exact words because at the time it was so funny
Thanks Mo. I`ve just read somewhere that he`d just had keyhole surgery - but surely you don`t have keyhole surgery for piles
Snipped
Judge Bright said
Wedding plans postponed because of Stewart's surgery
“These wedding plans were postponed due to a keyhole surgery operation on Stewart.
“The operation concluded that Stewart’s bout of illness (rectal bleeding) was the result of piles, and not of cancer.”
Also
You have heard from the expert Dr Ashwin Pinto who stated that Stewart was able to leave a full and healthy lifestyle despite his health condition of Myasthenia Gravis - which he was diagnosed with in 1996.”
He had also taken out a critical illness insurance policy which has been paying him 75% of his salary since the diagnosis of Myasthenia in 1996.
Thanks Mo - blimey he even had 75% of his salary paid to him. I wonder if he planned the Myasthenia Gravis as well because it is a muscular weakness. It`s a debilitating illness but I wonder if it`s easy to con a doctor.
I can`t find what his profession/trade was before he became ill. I expect his previous wife could tell a thing or to if she was alive. I hope they do some digging there.

Mimi he was supposed to be an IT expert! He apparently slipped and fell through a pain of glass at University and received compo - this enabled him to have his house built. People who knew his wife Diane were shocked when she died because she was fit and healthy, although she apparently suffered from Epylepsy. There is currently a team of 27 working on the death of Diane, I understand she was cremated but they still have the results from her death at the lab. Due to forensics advancing over the years further tests are being carried out. I read somewhere that IS has/had her ashes so I assume they are long gone.
Not the right thread I know but I am really sorry to hear about your dog Mimi, your mind must be in turmoil.

But by all accounts it was a neighbour who told them (police) about the cesspit

Yes I know, hence all concerned.
I think the Police would've got there eventually though even if the neighbour/friend didn't know about it. Just would've took a lot longer.

Here is the story on Sky website..
Killer of children's author Helen Bailey 'quizzed over death of first wife'
Ian Stewart, 57, dumped the author's body in a cesspit - and is now reportedly a suspect in the death of his first wife.

Thursday 23 August 2018
Helen bailey with killer Ian Stewart who is serving 34 years for her murder
The man who murdered children's writer Helen Bailey has reportedly been arrested over the death of his first wife.
Ian Stewart, 57, was jailed for 34 years last year after he smothered Ms Bailey before dumping her body in a cesspit in the garden of their home in Royston, Hertfordshire.
Police would not confirm they had arrested him again - but said a 57-year-old man from Bedford had been held on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Diane Stewart in Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire, in 2010.
Mrs Stewart was found in the garden of the house she shared with Stewart, her then-husband, in June 2010 and an inquest concluded she died of natural causes as a result of epilepsy.
Police announced a review of the case after the Ms Bailey case.
Hertfordshire Police said the arrested man had been released under investigation.
A spokesman said: "Detectives from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit have arrested a man following a re-examination of 47-year-old Diane Stewart's death at her home in Bassingbourn on 25 June 2010.
"The 57-year-old man from Bedford was arrested on Tuesday 21 August and questioned on suspicion of murder before being released under investigation."

It is so horrible to think that Helen Bailey a wonderful author and writer, was duped into loving this despicable man,. Her first husband died so tragically where she wrote such a lovely book about their time together, and then comes along this excuse for a human being. To think he could have murdered his first wife too is shocking. The police seem to have good reason to look into her death again.

Re: The case of writer Helen Bailey
There have been a few cases - maybe in America - where, after the death of a second spouse, it was found that the first one was murdered too but the death had initially been ruled as accidental.
