Re: The Mystery of Ben Needham
I'm not sure they have said this is a deathbed confession to a friend have they Canada?
It has always sounded more like a colleague that worked with him on that day to me. My problem with it leaving aside the 24 years + 1 year after Dino's death to come forward, is the detail and "specific" info SYP say this man has given them. If it is that good then it would say to me this man helped in the cover up directly more than relaying a story told to him.
Then there is the book quote I posted yesterday. It says the workmen including Dino had gone home for the day before the Needham's had lunch. There has been only mention of one digger so if Dino and workmates had left how could an accident with it happen?
Directly to your question:
Normally I would say this theory of SYP could be a cover in of itself as a way to get the to the truth/protect a close source but in this case SYP have named the man thought to be responsible and seem extremely confident in what they know. Maybe it is simply because he is dead but still seems poor form for his living family if they end up being wrong.
I'm very interested in what they will say about Dino and what they plan to do next if they find nothing after all this effort.

Directly to your question:
I come back to this: why did someone come forward and say that the digger driver gave him a deathbed confession?
If they don't find anything, what can we conclude?

Re: The Mystery of Ben Needham
But did ye realise the 2012 search was based round Dino killing Ben in digger by accident? Dino was repeatedly questioned and went to station even when dying acc to family, plus Eddie was there too with SYP?
To me this search appeared to be a bolt out of the blue theory about Dino, obv not,
Racking my brains, did Dino keep something related to Ben that the friend gave to SYP this year.
No pro police force would after 25 years tell a family the victim was dead without being bloody certain.

Yes I probably misinterpreted what I read... the story was presented to us as a witness coming forward and giving info about a friend (the digger driver) who had recently died. I thought the digger driver had confessed to the friend. I agree with you as above - if they don't find anything, why would they have believed this "new witness" and gone digging? Surely there must have been compelling evidence to suggest they would find something?

Re: The Mystery of Ben Needham
What I realised today is the stolen to order theory has always had a flaw acc to articles and interviews, nobody knew Ben was at the farmhouse site at that time in the back of beyond with a road ending in a forest with few houses.
BUT the shoplady cum translator did know, Step told her when she commented on him buying extra food, Michaelis had sent him for extra food. Chris had bought some but he wanted them to have a lovely meal on their 1st visit.
Shoplady friends with police chief vol translate, keeps hugging them etc but her own statement she says Ben was nt cared for or fed enough.
She had a white car that Summer which she later lies about and abuses them.
The Needham's questions about her were never answered properly.

But why present Dino as a new suspect now when he was the reason for the 2012 dig?

Plus all the rubble round the house was gone through with Eddie over the first 3 days in 1991, Kerry tells a gruesome story of a dead goat in a bag dripping with blood being found and the police with Eddie laughing.

You'd like to think not, but then South Yorks are hardly renowned for their professionalism.
Perhaps the aim of the whole exercise is to prove that you pin it on a swarthy foreigner, even without a body?

Re post 11.20 pm yday, I phrased it badly, police laughing, not Eddie who was ready to collapse.
The truck moving soil from Site 2 to f'house up rd is not covered over, clouds of dust everywhere, feel sick watching the dust knowing SYP say his remains are prob in there. You'd think they'd use some sort of cover if only for decency.

True, and what if a tiny, very important sample drops off on the way

Exactly, it's a bumpy road. On Cousin's film you can see clouds of smoke, they move it to a 'sterile' area yet don't put a cover on it.

A very positive attitude amongst #BenNeedham search team at the end of today. Significant amount of ground covered.

Re: The Mystery of Ben Needham
Can't believe what I just saw on Duncan Wood's update, see Andrew's link.
Was at site 2, work over for day there, Cousins and others drove off, site left with piles of earth unguarded. This is a supposed crime scene, traffic up and down, no barriers or tape.
Calandar, Wood and prod Mark Whitty to be commended for their constant work on Ben's case over 25 years, fair play to them.
Now saying will be on Kos til next week.

They are supposedly looking for bone fragments, so is it likely that the site will be compromised or contaminated by leaving it as it is?

Re: The Mystery of Ben Needham
Duncan asked about site security, said Greek police patrol area but it is not roped off, SYP say it's secure.
Considering what they believe to be among these piles of soil I find that shocking. A man jogged right past the piles as
Duncan was speaking. Also little media presence now.
Dunncan says Kerry watches his updates and his Q and A sessions on Facebook as a lifeline, to see this blue flatback truck over and back leaving massive dust storms in it's wake must be crucifying. He said Kerry has been well prepared for what is happening.
Cadaver dogs were used in 2012.
Why are they so sure? All I can think of is this man had something physical relating to Ben. Words alone would nt be enough to put Kerry through this.

There is a house right behind site 2 with people coming and going so how they can be sure of no interference is astonishing.
Sorry to be so graphic but animals could be around those piles at night.

That link worked Andrew ta
I can't understand why 60 and probably more now, are not sent away for study and only being brought back with the team. We know they're looking for clothes, but if one of those bits of fabric belong to Ben, surely they'd want to know asap?

And what are they going to do that would negate the searching?
