As a search continues at a landfill site in Milton in Cambridgeshire, police are confirming that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be working alongside officers investigating Corrie McKeague’s disappearance.

A team of specialist trained search officers from Suffolk and Norfolk Constabularies are continuing work at the site and have now been through more than 845 tonnes of material in the search.

Detective Superintendent Katie Elliott said; “Officers have been liaising with the HSE as part of the investigation into the circumstances around what happened to Corrie.

“At this stage our search at Milton continues. If there is a find on the site then the HSE will have a role to play in looking into the procedures that were in place and we have been speaking with them to ensure they are aware of our investigation to date.

“Officers have completed thousands of hours of enquiries to find Corrie and through the work that has been completed over the past few months we have gathered a substantial amount of information which will inform both our own and any potential HSE investigation as we move forward.”

In that article from thesun.co.uk : First time I have seen this possibility mentioned in the press.

Detectives now believe he could have climbed into or been placed in a bin that was collected from the loading bay by a Biffa lorry shortly after he vanished.

Can't believe nothing has been found yet. I'm not sure why SP are stating publicly that HSE are going over things? What have/could SP have or not done to warrant that...Surely if anyone should be calling them in it would be Biffa and FCC!

One thing I've been wondering is with SP being almost insistent that Corrie is at the landfill, could it possible he was moved to there after it was announced the place wouldn't be searched...? Which of course would raise a whole load of new questions.

I have wondered if that is a possibility; he couldn't have envisaged such time and effort being put in to find him and now he could be afraid to reappear.

I thought HSE were involved with regard to investigating Biffa and FCC. If a body has been deposited at a landfill site the operators and users surely must be investigated to discover how and why?

Neither of them are actually mentioned by SP in their 24th March update (I've been in hospital so missed this) but the whole thing is worded so weirdly to me.....Like as you say Biffa and FCC will be looked at but also sounds like SP's own investigation will be looked at by them?

Quite a lot on Reddit are also of the opinion that Corrie isn't in the landfill and either he is AWOL or killed elsewhere.

Just been brought to my attention elsewhere that the Sun article refers to Nicola as "ex-cop". I wonder how accurate that is, has she left the Force ?

I think the Sun are about 50/50 at best with accuracy. The Map of the phone/bin lorry route they use is unique so I do wonder if they know more, though. Wouldn't surprise me if Nicola left the force given all the criticism but wonder if she was pushed?

I'll be honest and say that I do my Corrie sleuthing on Reddit Andrew. No disrespect to anyone here intended but there are very few of us here interested in the case to any degree and over there it is constantly being updated so much more dynamic.
I do comment here occasionally and will do so if anything major happens.

Yep feel very well now apart from feeling bruised. Had my tooth out a week last Tuesday and was just chilling out and then on the Friday morning I woke up thinking I was having a heart attack! Turns out it was a Spontaneous Pneumothorax affraid

or in layman's terms a collapsed lung! Got to say the care at the Glenfield hospital was great and even the food was good. The pain when you tug on the 6 inch plastic needle that is inserted under the armpit to the lung isn't nice, though. Feels like I imagine a red hot poker would if pressed onto a pec.....
