It sounds utter nonsense, but nothing new there as regards everything about this case.

I can't recall a handyman being mentioned but surely he would have been named at the time if he was working there.

Yes I think there was mention, he went round to on of their apartments to mend washing machine??  I would have to find it again but  do recall a handyman was called out.....

I think I remember reading the handy man was called in to " fix " the window mechanism. You could interpret this as if you were leaving the children on their own then there might be an investigation of the security of the place and a work document of a faulty, broken or insecure opening already in place. If the window was checked by the workmen and fixed then I would say that the parents had done everthing possible to make the place secure, whilst they went out. This IMO had less bearing when they were questioned about the key that at first was the only way of access, but it later became the patio doors were left open. IMO.

That's unexpected but maybe it's linked to the 15 year statute of limitation in Portugal - if any believable evidence comes to light (pigs might fly) in the future, he could be charged?

Curious that neither the name nor sex of the suspect has been announced. I wouldn't be surprised if it is this German bloke, but you never know.

On Thursday, a statement was issued by prosecutors in Faro, Algarve's main city, who said a person was made an "arguido" - which translates as "named suspect", "formal suspect" or "person of interest" - a day earlier.

Yes, he's named in the links from newspapers.

I see in the Guardian article it says:

Prosecutors in Faro did not publicly name the man but said in a statement he was identified as a suspect by German authorities at their request.

So yeah looks like it's him then.

Lets hope the PJ have been patiently playing the long game for OG to shut up shop so they can precede unhindered and finally conclude the case. It's been 84 years.....

We have had confirmed from Portuguese sources who have real legal knowledge . . .
The constitution of CB as a defendant allows the interruption of the statute of limitations.
From now, at the 15 year mark, we can add a further 7 years and 6 months and start counting again.
This had already happened when the parents were made defendants.
